About this Event

When a crisis intersects with social media the lightning speed with which things unravel makes it vital for communication professionals to be equally fast in not only reacting but moving one step ahead to contain the situation. Recent events bear this out – the Ethiopian Air disaster and the Christchurch, New Zealand killings. This course will use case studies and analysis to look at

a) the nature of a crisis

b) why scenario planning is important

c) the importance of communication as a crisis unfolds

d) and some practical ways of seeing a major crisis through its end for any company.

By the end of this workshop, you will learn:

  • Crisis management and how to track developments on social media
  • Building a Social Media plan for Crisis management
  • How to handle and work with the local media
  • Communicating during a crisis – the planning that goes into the communication process on different media and new media platforms
  • Initial crisis response – and it is never “No Comment”
  • Crafting media messages
  • Preparing for a news conference
  • Participants will be tested on how they handle a crisis through a simulated exercise
